Ancient Fire

How old is fire? And when did the People start to use fire? Or make fire? And how?

Despite the fact that ‘fire making’ is a central  topic in bushcraft, it still, often, leaves many questions unanswered. Today we travel back in time; way back to Mesolithic and Neolithic times and stand in the  fur-hide boots of our ancestors. Fire is a story, an experience, a choice. What are we going to do:

Fire-keeping and carrying fire; the oldest skill of all

Tinders from fungi, when and when and how they work best

Amadou en lye; queen of tinders

Old sparks are hard to catch

Fire stories, celebrations and spirituality

About The Speaker

My name is Willow Lohr and for the past 18 years I have been professionally teaching Bushcraft, Wilderness Living skills and Primitive Handskills to adults, children and professionals alike. Currently I work for LivingbyNature as Head Instructor where I design and teach year-long courses in primitive livingskills, winter expedition skills, as well as more lore and legend based shamanistic ways of being in Nature. Well, that all sounds boring and pompous! What really happens when you come to a workshop or course with me?. Read more >
