Birch bark – tavlinka

Making a little jewellery/tobacco container of birch bark

Working with birch bark is a beautiful and very old craft. The first Slavic cultures were known for the use of birch bark. That was used in making baskets, shoes, clothes, roofing, containers, pots, toys, etc.

During this masterclass we will make a nice container of birch bark. A Tavlinka. These were formerly used to store jewelry and chewing tobacco. The nice thing about this container is that it was made from the remnants of the sheets that remained.

To save time, we use toothpicks to make the pins for around the container.

This is what we gonna do:

Birch bark theory (harvest and varieties)

Preparing the birch bark

Making a lot of wooden pins

Making a wooden bottom and lid

Timetable: 6 may 2021 at 9:30 am
Duration: The masterclass will last 7 hours
Costs Masterclass: €59,50
