Making a netting needle, gauge card and a gill net
Learn to carve your own netting needle and gauge card followed by instruction on how to make a gill net. Example crafts, materials and instruction are all provided but please bring your own knife.
When we think of netting we might immediately think of fishing! By learning how to make your own nets you open up a world of practical uses for nets beyond the obvious, from storage containers to traps and even beds to sleep in.
You will take away the crafts you make on this two-part workshop, the net you start can be finished as a small example net or continued further outside the workshop to create a net of any proportions you wish!
We will start in the morning with three hours given to making the tools you will need to craft your net. Meeting again after lunch we will then begin work on making your net.
You should leave this workshop with a sound working knowledge of how to make and use net tools, how to begin a net project, how to change the shape and mesh size of nets and how to join nets together.

About The Speaker
Honing these skills through 14 years of instructing created a desire to gain validity in what he was passing on to students and is reflected in the significant amount of time both living and teaching these skills in the context of wilderness travel and training courses.
‘’Throughout my career as a bushcraft instructor and expedition guide I have had a growing sense of the importance to somehow quantify authenticity in the skills I would be passing on to others. I strive for honesty by teaching from experience and immersing myself in a bushcraft lifestyle. I try to practice what I preach.’’ Read more >
